Festival events of Grey Cup and community celebrations

 The Grey Cup 2022 back in Saskatchewan and only six months to go, the preparations for "the biggest party in Canada" has already begun.

Festival week kicks off in Saskatoon with an event for youth in Merlis Belsher Plaza on November. 15, and Watch CFL Grey Cup 2022 pancake breakfast on November. 16, at Prairieland Park.

The theme for the festival -"Bring it to the heartland, "Bring it to the heartland" was announced earlier in the year and staff and volunteers are getting ready for the big event.

Saskatchewan Roughriders announced the winning communities that will be awarded the sum of $25,000 to help with their fundraising efforts for sports, recreation and cultural initiatives.

The winners are the following: Village of Abbey The town of Birch Hills, File Hills Qu'Appelle Tribal Council (11 members) the Town of Langham, Town of Marshall and Town of Whitewood.

Reynolds said that through the youth rally, they are hoping to draw the younger Generation of CFL and Riders supporters. The idea of having a specific event for youngsters in Saskatoon and other northern communities is a means to introduce youth to Grey Cup and Roughriders.

Fans are advised to arrive early to ensure they're in their seats for the 7:15 p.m. banner opening. The gates will be opened at 90 minutes prior to kickoff. There will be the pre-game party offering specials between 6 and 7 p.m. The specials include $5.00 canned bottles that contain Molson Coors and Molson Coors Light, $3.50 hot dogs and fountain drinks, as well as 15 percent off of all Grey Cup merchandise in the Bomber Store.

"Nothing says Grey Cup like a pancake breakfast," Craig Reynolds, Saskatchewan Roughriders President and CEO, told during a press event.

"I lived in a tiny town in Saskatchewan and I understand how much these riders mean to the whole province. One of the things we really emphasized was that we would be able to host events that were not in Regina. This is why we're having the event that kicks off in Saskatoon. It's an indication that it's provincial," he added.

Reynolds said that there's a lot of energy in the build-up, "you don't get to host all that often and there's just generally a lot of excitement around it."

He also said that tickets are available and that more than 70 percent have been sold.

"We haven't even gone to single game tickets, so we believe it's going to sell out very, very quickly," He stated.

"There's a lot of energy around the team and whenever you host the Grey Cup, there's that extra pressure, the extra motivation to be in that and I think our fans want to be there and support the team in the quest to do that."

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will unveil the 2021 Grey Cup championship banner at IG Field during the team's 2022 season opener at home on June 10, when the team will play host for The Ottawa RedBlacks.

"On the heels of unveiling our incredible Grey Cup rings, we're excited to once again celebrate with our fans as we unveil the new championship banner," Winnipeg Football Club President and chief executive officer Wade Miller said in a statement. "We can't wait to start a new season and start our pursuit of another championship with the best fans in the league."
